Forget the theory. This session is about real leadership when deadlines implode, clients erupt, and your right-hand man bails. Drawing from 25 years in construction, the Leadership Knocks platform, and the Hard Knock University Podcast, Mark Caples unpacks gritty, field-tested strategies to lead through chaos. You'll learn how to reframe discomfort, handle jobsite blowups, confront your inner villain to fix blind spots, and bounce back from mistakes without shame. John Buonadonna, Director of Construction with JG Real Estate Property Management, will join the conversation to share how these approaches translate into day-to-day decisions and measurable results. Walk away with clear, actionable tools to lead more confidently when it matters most.

Mark Caples

Author, Podcaster, Construction and Remodeling Consultant

Leadership Knocks

Mark Caples is the founder of Leadership Knocks, host of the Hard Knock University Podcast, and author of The Hard Knock School of Project Management. With over 25 years in construction and remodeling, he’s built his career the hard way through blown timelines, tough clients, failed businesses, and lessons learned in the field. He’s led projects as a Senior Project Manager at Curbio, ranked #37 on Qualified Remodeler’s Top 500, and previously owned a luxury kitchen and bath remodeling company that taught him more from failure than success ever could. In the past year, he also founded Mark Dalton Homes and Doors by Dalton, continuing to build and lead from the ground up. Mark’s work is rooted in one belief: mistakes aren’t setbacks, they’re training reps. Through his speaking, writing, and podcast, he helps leaders navigate chaos, own their blind spots, and build teams that can take a hit and keep moving. He doesn’t teach theory. He teaches what happens when the plan falls apart and you’re the one everyone’s looking at.

John Buonadonna Jr.

Director of Construction

JG Real Estate Property Management

John Buonadonna Jr. is an experienced construction leader with a background that’s as unique as it is effective. Before stepping into real estate and construction full-time, John served as a police officer, where he built the core traits that still define his leadership today—accountability, attention to detail, communication under pressure, and a relentless commitment to doing things the right way. With over 7 years of experience in the construction industry, John now oversees renovation operations for JG Real Estate as Director of Construction. He manages projects from initial planning through final delivery, ensuring every job is aligned with investment goals, timelines, and client expectations. Prior to joining JG, John spent 4 years with Curbio, managing over 100 pre-sale residential renovations throughout the Philadelphia region. This role honed his ability to work efficiently under tight deadlines, coordinate with agents and homeowners, and deliver turn-key results that directly improved resale value.
